Week of April 4-April 8

GET THE SCOOP
Dear Parents,
April and May are busy months for first grade. We are already in the 4th nine weeks. I will be assessing the students’ end of the year reading levels after spring break. It is vitally important that your child is reading challenging books everyday. As you already know, the end of the year goal is Level 18 or higher.
Next month, we will have 2 field trips. If you owe a balance to the library, office or cafeteria, you must set up a payment plan for your child to go. Please contact the office or cafeteria to do so.
We have finished our READING MAP testing for the year. I am SO, SO proud of my students. They all increased their scores! I would like to give them an in-class celebration by having a pizza party next week on Thurs. or Fri. If you would like to donate $ for this and would be able to pick up pizzas for us from Little Caesar’s, please write a note in your child’s agenda. It should only take about $25 to feed them all.

READING
The students have their new reading books. Our story for this week is called “A Bed Full of Cats.” The skills that we will focus on are long /e/ words with e, -ee, -ea, putting words in ABC order, and drawing conclusions.

New reading logs have been sent home. When your child reads 21 books, send the log in for a new one and a free pizza certificate for Pizza Hut.
Science

We are finished our science unit Balance and Motion. Students be assessed on the concepts of the unit this week.
